Take part in the Poetry Slam on the occasion of the European Day of Languages!

On the occasion of the European Day of Languages we are looking for international poetry slammers for a slam with a difference – based on the Little Red Riding Hood theme.

“Once upon a time there was a sweet little girl. Everyone who saw her liked her, but most of all her grandmother, who did not know what to give the child next. Once she gave her a little cap made of red velvet ...“

Perhaps you know the story about Little Red Riding Hood inside out but would like to interpret it with a different twist? Would you like to tell the fairy-tale in another language, even if your audience may not understand? Maybe in your mother tongue Little Red Riding Hood carries jam in her basket instead of wine?

The focus for the event will be the various interpretations of this well-known fairy-tale, as told in different European languages. It is OK for Little Red Riding Hood, grandmother and the Big Bad Wolf to leave their familiar paths.

During the slam animated pictures depicting the fairy-tale will be shown in the background. The animation video will be available from August, and then it is up to you how much you want to use this as the basis for your contribution. You can choose from the following options for your presentation:

  • present in a European language without translation
  • present in German or English, but include features of another European language

You have 4 minutes for your slot. If you make it through to the final, you can present another contribution. This can be up to 5 minutes and does not need to be connected with Little Red Riding Hood. Each slammer gets a small fee. Prizes will be awarded to the three best slammers.

The slam will be moderated by Maik Martschinowsky.

We would like to see Little Red Riding Hood from unusual perspectives and narrated in different languages.  Show us what is hidden behind the fairy-tale.

If you would like to take part, contact to register by 30 June 2017, sending in a few lines about yourself, ideally together with a short video clip of you in action.

26 September 2017 from 19:30-21:00, Institut Français Berlin,  Kurfürstendamm 211, 10719 Berlin

Little Red Riding Hood – a fairy-tale slam is a joint event of EUNIC Berlin and the Representation of the European Commission in Germany in the context of the European Day of Languages, and aims to show language diversity in Europe and as well as the attraction of individual languages.
